Here is my favorite bun recipe. I make them every few weeks and store the leftovers in the freezer (if there are any). They are perfect with these sandwiches or as dinner rolls.
You still have time to make them today for grilled burgers tonight! No pressure 🙂
I made these when I was at my parents house last week – so I only had my phone for pictures. I left them on the counter in the warm sun. It helped raise them a little quicker.
Make sure and cover them up while they are raising so they don’t dry out.
A couple of them disappeared immediately out of the oven.
You will not be able to resist.
You may never buy hamburger buns again.
Homemade Hamburger Buns
I added in 2 cups of organic white flour and 1⅓ cup of whole wheat instead of having it all white.
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 T yeast
- 2 T melted butter
- 1 egg
- ¼ sucanat, sugar or honey
- 1¼ tsp salt
- 3½ cups organic white flour
- Dried onion (optional)
- 2 T melted butter for tops of buns
Instructions
- Mix all of the ingredients to make a soft dough.
- Cover and let raise for about an hour.
- Punch down and form into 12 balls.
- Flatten the balls out to make a bun shape.
- Press top of bun into dried onion (if desired).
- Put on baking sheet and cover.
- Let rise for another 45 minutes to an hour.
- Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.
- Brush on melted butter.
Made these the other day, They were great! Especially liked them buttered and toasted in a skillet.
